Things to do in Port Lincoln

Activities and Attractions in Port Lincoln

  • Take the family out to Glen Forest Animal Park – a 20 minute drive from Port Lincoln, and a great family day out. Animals, BBQ area, maze, putt putt golf, segways and a winery.
  • Bring your family along in January & experience Tunarama! Watch the free procession and Fireworks display on the foreshore.
  • Water activities – Sailing, boating, windsurfing, swimming, snorkelling, fishing, endless activities
  • Whaler’s Way – a 25 min drive away.  Self drive (obtain a permit from the Visitor Information Centre or online) or go as part of a tour with Untamed Escapes or Australian Coastal Safaris. Amazing coastline.  Chance to see a seal colony from above, short walks to a blowhole, caves, rockpools and stunning scenery.
  • Fishery Bay – Beautiful beach just before the Whaler’s Way entrance.  Popular with families and surfers.
  • Mikkira Station – On the way out to Fishery Bay, privately owned land with a large population of koalas. (obtain a permit from the Visitor Information Centre or online). Available to the public during the cooler months.  During fire season it is accessible via private tour only.
  • Lincoln National Park – Turn off to the Park is about 15 minutes from Port Lincoln.  Sealed and dirt roads.  Suitable for a 2WD vehicle, however there are some tracks that are 4WD only. Easy to spend a day exploring beautiful beaches, hiking or fishing.
  • Stamford Hill, a great hike with spectacular views from the top of the hill.
  • Memory Cove – Wilderness Protection Area – 4WD only.  You must obtain a key for the gate a the Visitor Information Centre as they restrict the number of cars visiting per day
  • Coffin Bay – 35 minutes from Port Lincoln. Enjoy the “Oyster Walk” along the foreshore. Visit the oyster sheds to purchase fresh oysters straight from the farms.
  • Coffin Bay National Park – There are sealed roads to rugged coastline and beautiful beaches.  There are also a lot of 4WD only tracks to other beaches.
  • Tours in Coffin Bay – Experience Coffin – Boat tours direct to the Oyster Farms.  90 minute tour to Kellidie Bay or 3 hour tour, via the Coffin Bay National Park to Oyster Farms surrounded by crystal clear waters.  On the longer tour you have time to pop on some waders and get in the water to walk around the farm. Oyster Farm Tours, tours directly in front of their restaurant Oysters HQ.  Wade out to the front to a platform and learn how to schuck an oyster whilst sipping on some champagne and learning a bit about the industry.
  • Museums – Koppio Smithy Museum – Situated in Koppio Hills (30 minute drive from Port Lincoln)- step back in time to the old Blacksmith’s shop & cottage. Axel Stenross Museum – celebrates the life of Finnish boat builders Axel Stenross and Frank Laakso. Mill Cottage – An old Pioneer cottage. Also Port Lincoln Railway Museum
  • Parnkalla Trail – Great coastal walking trail – accessible from the front of our motel
  • Port Lincoln Marina – Take a small drive to our Marina where you will see the biggest fishing fleet of the southern Hemisphere.  Prawn boats, crayfish, tuna, sardines, pilchards, kingfish – to name a few!
  • Tumby Bay – 35 minute drive. Lovely coastal town with Silo Art and murals at various locations across town.  Every year they have a ‘Colour Tumby Bay’ street art festival, which adds to the artwork you see across town.
  • Wineries – In Port Lincoln we have a couple of wineries that you can visit – Boston Bay Winery & Gardner’s Vineyard. 
  • Breweries – There are also a couple of Breweries in town – Port Lincoln Brewing Co & Jumpship Brewery.  And West Coast Distilling Co for delicious cocktails. 
  • Dining – Plenty of restaurants, cafes and THE best seafood!
  • Shark Tours & Swim with the Seals are with Calypso Charters for a day tour.  Or Rodney Fox Expeditions offer 2, 3 or 5 night expeditions to see the sharks.
  • Sleaford Bay – is a great place to spot whales, mainly July-September, the most frequent species being the Southern Right Whale, although Humpbacks often swing by a bit earlier.
